What is Vietnam Visa Exemption?
Vietnam’s Visa Exemption is also known as Visa waiver or Visa free entry. Signifies a diplomatic agreement between Vietnamese government and foreign nation. This agreement allows citizens of specific countries to enter Vietnam and stay for a predetermined period. Without undergoing the conventional visa application process. The streamlined approach is result of biliteral and uniliteral visa exemptions. Agreement established between Vietnam and participating countries.
Upon entry under the Visa Exemption program, foreign nationals receive an exemption stamp on their passport, indicating their eligibility to stay in Vietnam. This approach not only promotes tourism and cultural exchange but also contributes to a more straightforward and efficient travel experience for everyone when coming to Vietnam.
Conditions for Making Vietnam Visa Exemption
There are a number of conditions that visitors are required to comply with if they are eligible for Visa Exemption:
- Valid Passport
Passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry into Vietnam and at least 2 blank pages for the Visa Exemption stamp.
- Purpose of Visit
The purpose of the visit varies by country, ranging from tourism and business negotiation to official duty and attending seminars or conferences.
- Duration Limits
Each country has a specific maximum duration for visa-free stays, ranging from 14 to 90 days.

Note:
- Regulations on Foreigners subject to unilateral visa exemption, if they want to use Visa Exemption the next time they enter Vietnam, they must wait at least 30 days from the date of exit of their first stay in Vietnam. Citizens of countries under the Vietnam Visa Exemption category are always exempted from visas for up to 15 days.
- British citizen passport holders abroad - BNO are not eligible for Vietnam Visa Exemption.
- Visa Exemption includes entry, exit and transit visa exemption.
- Visa-free temporary residence period is calculated from the date of entry.
Other Vietnam Visa Exemption Cases
Currently, in addition to the above visa-exempt cases, Vietnam is also exempting visas for the following cases:
- 30-day Visa Exemption for foreigners entering coastal economic zones according to the Government's decision when all the following conditions are met:
- Has an international airport.
- Has separate space.
- Has a defined geographical boundary, isolated from the mainland.
- Consistent with socio-economic development policies and does not harm vietnam's national defense, security, social order and safety.
- APEC Business Travel Card (ABTC) holders with valid passports are exempted from entry visa and stay in Vietnam for a maximum of 60 days.
Vietnam Visa Exemption Extension
Currently, all cases of entering Vietnam with Visa Exemption cannot be extended.
If you want to stay longer, you can leave Vietnam for neighboring countries or countries in the region and return with a new visa exemption. This form is called a Visa Run. There is another way, you can use our Visa Service if you do not want to leave Vietnam.

APEC Business Travel Card (ABTC) holders with valid passports are exempt from visa entry and stay in Vietnam for up to 60 days.
If you are eligible for Visa Exemption (except 5-year Visa Exemption), you do not have to do anything first. Just make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival and has 2 blank pages. Then, when you arrive at the Vietnam border gate, you only need to present your passport to enter Vietnam.
